Château Ausone

Château Ausone takes its name from the Roman poet Ausonius, who lived in the 4th century A.D. and owned copious hectares of vines perched on hillsides on the southern outskirts of the village of Saint-Émilion. Situated on the edge of the plateau at an altitude of 75 metres, the château dominates the Dordogne valley to the south-east. Château Ausone is among the best producers in the state. According to the official classification, it has obtained the status of 'Premier Grand Cru, Class A', which only a few French wineries possess. It produces only two brands of wine. The company's first wine bears its name: Chateau Ausone. It has received incredibly high marks from critics and connoisseurs, and is the most important wine in any collection. The second wine, less expensive and elegant, but still high-end, is Chapelle d'Ausone. It belongs to the Vauthier family.
