The Terlan Winery was founded in 1893 and is one of the most progressive winegrowers' cooperatives in the whole of South Tyrol. Its 143 current members cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards, with a total annual production of 1.5 million bottles. For years, together with our members, we have taken the path of quality with commitment and perseverance, the same quality that has earned us fame and recognition on the Italian and international wine markets. This is why, despite being relatively small, the Terlano winery is now an established institution in its sector. In our modern facility, we exclusively mature DOC wines, 30 per cent red and 70 per cent white. In 2009, we expanded the ageing area to 18,000 cubic metres, also completely redesigning it architecturally. Today, our wines find there all the space they need to grow and develop fully. From the outside, the new wing of the building is clad in red porphyry, the typical rock of the area that gives our wine its distinctive characteristics. The roof of the cellar has been greened and covered with vines, seamlessly blending into the surrounding cultivated landscape. The distribution of the wines produced is divided into two clearly differentiated quality lines: the Selections and the Tradition line. In addition, each year we market a 'rare' wine, aged for at least ten years in our cellars, and designed to give visibility to our philosophy of wine longevity. The Organisation The Terlan Winery has a cooperative structure. President Georg Eyrl and Vice-President Hansjörg Hafner lead the board of directors - elected for a three-year term in 2020 - consisting of Anton Adami, Norbert Elsler, Christoph Patauner, Ulrike Gratl, Hans-Peter Höller, Georg Spitaler, Stefan Sandrini, Robert Müller, Elmar Pichler, Konrad Rauch and Manfred Runer.

Description

Named after the wine-growing village of Santa Maddalena on the outskirts of Bolzano, this wine with its elegance and fruity notes still has many supporters, and is gradually making a comeback.

Organoleptic characteristics:

Deep ruby red. With a clear fruity bouquet reminiscent of elderberries and cherries at first glance, flanked by an aroma of bitter almonds and a hint of violets, the Santa Maddalena is a wine that is very convincing on the nose. The fruity taste is also repeated on the palate, but softer and more elegant, giving this wine, together with its balanced acidity and tannic level bassto uniqueness and class.

Storage time:

2-5 years

Vinification

Manual grape harvest and selection. De-stemming of the grapes and subsequent slow fermentation at controlled temperature, and gentle handling of the must in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 7-8 months in large wooden barrels.
