Features
Name:
Merlot 2007 Venezia Giulia IGT Radikon
Terrain:
Ponka, a type of clay that in its deepest states has the compactness of a rock, but crumbles as soon as it comes into contact with some corrosion agent
Cellar
The Radikon family lives in Oslavia, in a district of the city of Gorizia of 641 inhabitants, in the same house. After replanting the vineyards destroyed during the First World War, Edoardo Radikon re-established the company in 1948. Today, the small family business is run by his grandchildren Saša, Suzana, Ivana, Savina and Luisa. It is a winery that pursues a comprehensive idea of respect for nature and people. The land is worked, today as in the past, with full respect and love for nature. Vine shoots and marc are the only mineral soil fertilisers on the farm; treatments, based only on copper, sulphur and propolis, are reduced to the bare essentials.
Description
The Merlot from the Radikon winery is an exciting, structured and powerful wine that underwent spontaneous fermentation and maceration for three to four months in oak vats and then aged in used barriques for five years with some racking, and more than 10 years in the bottle. This is a wine that combines complexity and richness with finesse and elegance, while maintaining a balanced, fresh and consistent character and lively, biting tannins.
