The beginning of the Maison's history dates back to 1812, when it was created by André Michel Pierlot. It took the name Veuve Laurent-Perrier when Mathilde Emilie Perrier, widow of Eugène Laurent decided to unite the two surnames while ensuring its development. Eugénie Hortense Laurent, her daughter, inherited the Maison in 1925 and passed it on to Marie-Louise de Nonancourt, née Lanson, in 1939. In 1939, Marie-Louise de Nonancourt, a widow and mother of four, anxious to secure their future, bought Domaine Laurent-Perrier. During World War II, her two eldest sons joined the resistance, Bernard was at the side of Abbot Pierre. In 1945 Bernard de Nonancourt began a demanding apprenticeship in all phases of the profession from vineyard to cellar before being appointed in October 1948, at the age of 28, President and Managing Director. The Maison then employed some 20 people and sold 80,000 bottles. Driven by a passion for champagne, respect for traditional values and above all for men, Bernard de Nonancourt instilled in Laurent-Perrier independence of spirit and creative audacity. He established privileged relationships with the winegrowers; under his guidance, Laurent-Perrier became a true innovator in Champagne in just 40 years. He created the Laurent-Perrier style: freshness, finesse, elegance and developed a unique range of champagnes that are exported worldwide to more than 160 countries.
