The Planeta family, of very ancient Spanish origin, has for 17 generations been committed to the promotion of Sicilian wine excellence, culminating in the great modern production reality we know today, an absolute protagonist of the Sicilian wine renaissance. The modern journey began in 1995 with the birth of the winery in Ulmo. Five estates in five different territories, Sambuca di Sicilia and Menfi (Agrigento), Vittoria (Ragusa), Noto (Siracusa), Castiglione di Sicilia (Catania) and Capo Milazzo (Messina). Different soils and climatic conditions give rise to different wines with a thousand facets, each with its own character and personality. A winemaking reality that has always been very attentive to environmental sustainability, so much so as to adhere to the 'Planeta Terra' project that has as its objectives: landscape protection, bio-architecture, renewable energy, recycled materials. With the 'Sostain' project, Planeta also combines traditional and organic viticulture with the application of scientific and technological innovations. A company that is always researching and studying native varieties, but at the same time also international varieties such as Chardonnay and Cabernet.
Description
La Segreta takes its name from the wood surrounding the Ulmo vineyard that has been owned by the Planeta family for centuries. It is a white wine made mainly from Grecanico grapes, an indigenous grape enriched by the presence of other varieties, including international ones, in the final blend. For this wine, we were inspired by the theme of Sicilian nature - both inside and outside the bottle - drawing on the work of an illustrious Sicilian, Giuseppe Riggio, who in the late 18th and early 19th century created, with the help of a painter, a 'erbario picto' (herbarium picto) that depicts, with great precision and poetry, the Sicilian flora. The new label offers an alphabet of herbs, flowers and roots, the expression of a hidden and powerful beauty that is only revealed to those who know how to admire it.
An olfactory and gustatory richness that is fully manifested in these wines.
Organoleptic characteristics:
Light yellow colour with green hues that anticipate its freshness. Youthful citrus and floral notes on the nose, balanced by lively Mediterranean notes of peach, papaya and chamomile. Balanced and fine on the palate, thanks to a well-balanced acidity.
Storage time:
To be loved young, appreciating its evolution over the next 2 years
Vinification
Static decanting of the must after destemming and soft pressing; inoculation with yeasts on the limpid; fermentation at 15 °C in steel vats and storage until bottling
