Description
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “Il Poggio” by Castello di Monsanto was born in 1962 thanks to Fabrizio Bianchi, founder of the winery. It is the flagship wine of the winery and the first Chianti Classico to indicate the individual vineyard on the label. Produced with 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo and Colorino, it ferments in temperature-controlled steel vats and matures for about 20 months in French oak barrels, followed by two years of bottle ageing. It is a wine known for its great ageing capacity.
Organoleptic characteristics:
It has an intense ruby red colour. Perfumes of violets and sour cherries emerge on the nose, accompanied by delicate spicy notes. The palate is rich and complex, with great personality and a long, enveloping finish.
Storage time:
20 years
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in truncated conical steel vats at a controlled temperature, with délestage and pumping-over techniques to favour the extraction of colour and aromas from the skins, for a duration of approximately 20-22 days
