Veuve Clicquot

Veuve Clicquot is one of the world's largest champagne producers (maison) based in Reims, in the Champagne-Ardenne region. Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Muiron, it played a key role in establishing Champagne as a favourite wine in the circles of Europe's upper middle class and nobility. If Champagne today is what it is, also from a stylistic point of view, much is due to the famous 'widow', Veuve Clicquot. One of the best known and most respected women in Champagne who contributed with her work, great determination and intuition, to making the famous French bubble wine a true symbol of elegance and refinement. She created the first Vintage Champagne in 1810, invented the table de remuage, ancestor of the modern pupitre, and made the first Champagne Rosé in 1816. But the fortunes of the widow Clicquot are above all linked to those of the Russian empire, the maison's first customer from the very beginning. Today, Veuve Clicquot, which is part of the prestigious luxury group LVMH, has more than 390 vineyards throughout the region, more than 80% of which are made up of Grand Cru and Premier Cru plots.
