Craigellachie is a small village in the heart of Speyside, a nerve centre for the whisky trade. The River Fiddich meets the Spey: it was here, in 1891, that Peter Mackey and Alexander Edward founded the distillery of the same name, which has always produced its own spirits for the creation of various Blended Whiskies. Craigellachie's Single Malt range is distinguished by a unique and personal style, different from other Speyside Whiskies: the character of the distillates is robust and muscular, with a subtle hint of pineapple. Each bottle offers an original insight into the world of Scotch Whiskies.
Description
Craigellachie 13 is anything but a typical Speyside whisky. Considered old-fashioned even in 1891, its fruity, muscular flavour comes from the use of endless tube condensers. It is this full-bodied, yet aromatic character that defies expectations. Obtained from a selection of the finest barley malt, which also forms the essential basis of the distillate's aroma. All Craigellachie expressions are unfiltered, contain no caramel colouring and are bottled at 46% ABV.
Organoleptic characteristics:
Amber straw colour. Bouquet expresses fruity notes, apricots, pears, sweet hints of caramel and vanilla, smoky, peaty and spicy accents. The taste is complex, persuasive, with notes of beeswax, roasted nuts, roasted marshmallow aromas, fire-roasted pineapple and baked apples studded with cloves, with a finish of malt, vanilla and wood.
Storage time:
over 20 years
Vinification
Initially matured in a blend of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. The 50% of the 'blend' is then finished in first-fill Sherry casks, the rest in first-fill Bourbon.
