The story of Umani Ronchi began fifty years ago, in Cupramontana, the home of classic Verdicchio, and then explored many other areas of the precious land of the Adriatic. Today, Umani Ronchi is the wine company owned by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, which since 1957 has been producing, with care and craftsmanship, wines of great quality, making the most of those grape varieties that find their natural and best expression in the lands of the Marche and Abruzzo: Verdicchio and Montepulciano.
From Serra dei Conti, in the Marche region, to Roseto degli Abruzzi, the company has a 210-hectare vineyard area, all distributed along the Adriatic coast, between the hills and the sea: 185 km of rows and 10 vineyards, each with its own vocation and terroir. Numbers that tell of a continuous, almost spasmodic search for the "best" land and the most advanced agronomic and oenological techniques. From the 1970s to today, the company has doubled the number of hectares owned and renewed the 85% of old vines. It has invested in Verdicchio and Rosso Conero, it has recovered and valorised vines such as Pecorino and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, always and in any case setting itself qualitatively high oenological objectives.
The Umani Ronchi company is guided by a strong ethical approach, and respects the environment with great consideration for the territory and biodiversity. An approach that immediately becomes concrete when talking about precision viticulture, the management of machinery for vineyard treatments, and organic fertilisation. A sustainable attitude that also guides the choice of materials: the lightweight glass of the bottle has a lower impact on CO2 emissions, while the synthetic stoppers produced from sugar cane are 100% recyclable. Then there is the photovoltaic system for energy production. Everything expresses a sustainable way of thinking and acting.
Description
Plenio is a Verdicchio Riserva from the Umani Ronchi winery, a type stipulated by the production regulations that impose a minimum ageing period of 18 months, of which at least 6 are spent in the bottle. It is a great, elegant and refined white wine with unmistakable perfumes and aromas. The name comes from the Latin Plenum and is intended to suggest its characteristics of fullness, complexity and structure.
Organoleptic characteristics:
The colour is an intense straw yellow, with golden reflections; the nose is fresh and penetrating, with hints slightly of ripe fruit, honey, bitter almonds and aromatic herbs, with a slight balsamic undertone; there is a typical note of aniseed, a stamp of the vine of origin. In the mouth it has excellent correspondence with the nose: a fresh attack and pleasant softness, balanced by the alcohol, velvety, rich but with great freshness and salinity. The finish is very persistent, with long memories of apple, plum and almond. Wonderful sapidity in the aftertaste.
Storage time:
6-7 years
Vinification
After soft pressing, the free-run juice is suddenly cooled and then statically decanted. Fermentation is carried out for the 60% in steel tanks, at a controlled temperature of between 16 and 18°C, and lasts for 10-15 days. The remaining 40% is fermented in 50 hl oak barrels. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation on a 10-15% of the total mass
