Eighty-year-old Charles Gordon, owner of William Grant's we can call him a visionary nomad, descendant of the founding family of William Grant & Son, and later chairman of the group, attended an'auction in 1966 where two stills were for sale. These were not just any old stills, as one was a wonderful copper 'Carter Head' still built in 1948 by John Dore & co Ltd in a very limited series, the other was the still used by Marshall & Taplow of Stratford, one of London's historic gin distilleries from the Gin Act era, a very small 1860s pot still made by the legendary Bennet Sons & Shears. Charles Gordon didn't let the opportunity pass him by, although he still had no clear ideas about what to do with it. Only years later came the idea of using them for the production of Hendrick's Gin, which gives an idea of the pioneering mentality of Charles Gordon, the man who invented Single Malt Scotch Whisky. So it was after years of experimentation that Hendrick's Gin was born, in 1999.

Description

Hendrick's Ginad, thanks to centuries of expert distillation, is now a worldwide icon. With its inimitable organoleptic characteristics, it has been described by the Wall Street Journal as the best gin in the world. The recipe uses 11 botanicals: yarrow, coriander, juniper, chamomile, caraway seeds, cubebe berries, elderflower, orange peel, lemon peel, angelica root, iris root. To these are also added rose petals from Bulgaria and German cucumbers, infused just before bottling. The result is an intense and refreshing gin with great character and personality.

Organoleptic characteristics:

Brilliant transparent colour. Aromas of elderflower, spicy hints of white pepper and aniseed. The sip is of beautiful freshness and roundness

Vinification

Handcrafted in small batches of just 450 litres at a time, using two exclusive copper stills with a unique history: a Carter Head, of which only a few examples exist, and a small 1864 Bennet Still discontinuous still. Botanicals are macerated in the spirit for 24 hours or boiled, while others are simply steamed and then infused.
