The rebirth of this historic Chilean botega is due to Count Francesco Marone Cinzano, defined as the Viticulturist of two worlds since, in addition to being head of the Col d'Orcia Estate, a historic winery in Montalcino, he decided in 2005 to launch an ambitious project such as the recovery and restoration of the ancient winery 'La Reserva de Caliboro', an emblematic symbol of the local Chilean rural heritage. This successful project preserves old values by making good use of existing resources and complementing them with modern technology. For example, Count Cinzano had the utmost consideration for the environment during the restoration, wild yeasts are used to ferment the wines and the vineyards are not irrigated in any way. However, these great artisanal wines must also be produced efficiently. So the cellar was equipped with the most modern equipment. The soils are very poor and dry, resulting in small, concentrated grapes that are refined into deep wines. Only three different grape varieties are grown here: Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These are traditional Mediterranean varieties that have been specially imported from Europe.

Description

Barbera and Garnacha is an unprecedented blend from the coastal highlands of the Maule Valley. The plots from which the grapes come are located in the Reserva de Caliboro, on the lowest slopes of the central valley of the Maule region: these are soils of alluvial origin, formed by the debris deposited by the flow of the Perquilauquen River. Surprisingly, this region receives no oceanic influence, because the opening to the coast is barred by much higher elevations.

Organoleptic characteristics:

Deep ruby red colour with violet hues. The nose reveals notes of ripe, dark berries, cherries and currants with an intriguing complexity brought by spicy and dark chocolate nuances. On the palate it is fresh, juicy, soft tannins.
