Bowmore is Islay's first licensed distillery. Since 1779, it has stood on the shores of Lochindaal, a sea loch opening into the wild Atlantic Ocean. Today, the distillery still operates in the traditional way, honouring the whisky-making techniques of its origins. Bowmore is still handcrafted today. Time is invested at every stage. Care and attention to detail create the unique and timeless Bowmore style. Unparalleled single malts that remain unchanged and age like no other on Islay. Some historians believe the name Bowmore comes from a small black cliff just outside Lochindaal, while others refer to the Norse term for a submerged rock, bogha mor, as the origin. Whatever the truth of the matter, there is a forte with the area. Home to one of the oldest scotch maturation warehouses in the world, the No. 1 Vaults. It is in this legendary warehouse that Bowmore single malts have been meticulously matured and crafted for over 240 years.

Description

Bowmore 12 years is the soul of the island of Islay. It is matured in old warehouses near the sea or even below sea level, giving it unique characteristics. Some of the malting is done directly at the distillery with a measured amount of peat, while the water comes from the Laggan River. A complex, refined and perfectly balanced whisky.

Organoleptic characteristics:

Intense amber in colour on the palate, hints of citrus, lemon and subtle honey are evident, beautifully balanced by Bowmore's signature peaty smokiness. Warm and delicious on the palate, with subtle dark chocolate flavours. Typical peat smoke flavour, leading to a delicious, long and smooth finish.

Storage time:

over 20 years

Vinification

Produced using water from the Laggan River, it contains the characteristic Islay peat, the same peat that is used as fuel in the kiln to dry the malt.
