In 1833, the entrepreneur and aesthete Louis Roederer, heir to the Maison de Champagne, took the far-sighted decision to enrich the vineyard in order to control all stages of wine-making and created an entirely original style, spirit and taste. In the mid-19th century, with the purchase of vines selected with instinct and eclectic spirit on the lands of the Grands Crus de Champagne, Louis Roederer went against the grain of the customs of the time.
While others bought the grapes, Louis Roederer tended the vineyard, deciphered the character of each plot and methodically acquired the best ones. Persuaded that the quintessence of a great wine resides in the earth, a lover of tradition and a forward-looking man, Louis Roederer traces an exceptional destiny for the House that has since borne his name. His successor, Louis Roederer II, is animated by the same patient vision of champagne, the same patrimonial conception of the wine estate, the same resourcefulness.
He drew inspiration from his love of books and drawings, which he collected with talent. From the 1870s onwards, Champagne Louis Roederer wines travelled as far as the United States and Russia, to the table of Tsar Alexander II.
A man of taste, an inveterate researcher, Louis Roederer created a new champagne for the Emperor and launched a new idea: the first 'cuvée de prestige', born in 1876 under the name 'Cristal'. Its subtlety and elegance have since established the reputation of excellence of the Maison Louis Roederer. In the 1920s, the new heir to the House of Louis Roederer, Léon Olry Roederer, dedicated himself to the creation of a particularly well-balanced wine, whose constant and delicate blend of different vintages is the promise of consistently perfect quality. A magnificent blend that contributes to the rebirth of the Maison Louis Roederer.
Always independent, and always run by the family, the Maison Louis Roederer is today directed by Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh generation of the dynasty. With the same patience, an'unwavering loyalty to its creative vocation, Maison Louis Roederer now ships more than three million bottles each year to over a hundred countries around the world.
Description
An ode to the passing of time, to the liveliness of the Chardonnay Grand Cru on the limestone soils, to Louis Roederer's decisive, vinous and refined style. Inspired by the Maison's savoir-faire based on a year's harvest, this pure Chardonnay comes from a few mid-hill parcels concentrated in the "La Côte" vineyard in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. This champagne draws its singular chalky strength, with insolent and infinite freshness, from these chalky soils. Over time, it reveals the power and identity of these great terroirs.
Organoleptic characteristics:
Brilliant gold colour with green highlights.
Nuances of delicate flowers (honeysuckle, jasmine) and ripe, delicate, almost toasted citrus fruits (cedar) stand out. This is followed by iodine sensations, of sea breeze, combined with warm, sweet notes of freshly baked pastries.
The palate is dense, delicately acidulous and invigorating. The iodine side dominates, supported by notes of citrus (orange), harvest (almond, wheat) and Madagascar vanilla.
Storage time:
7-15 years
