Montevertine

The historic farm Montevertine is situated among the rolling hills in the municipality of Radda in Chianti at an altitude of 425 metres. Montevertine has been inhabited since the 11th century. Traces of the original building, undoubtedly of a defensive character, are still visible, later transformed into a rural dwelling. Montevertine was bought in 1967 by Sergio Manetti, then a steel industrialist, as a holiday home. He restored the house making it habitable and immediately planted two hectares of vines and set up a small wine cellar with the idea of producing some wine for his friends and clients. The first vintage produced was 1971. Only the traditional varieties of the Chianti region are grown in the estate vineyards: Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. The vinification method is extremely traditional and has been the same since the first harvests. The wines are never filtered and bottling is done by gravity.
