The Montanaro distillery found its forerunner in Francesco Trussoni, master of Alchemy in Gallo d'Alba. As early as 1885, he had the brilliant intuition to create Grappa di Barolo, the first single-varietal grappa in history. In 1922, the company passed under the leadership of Mario Montanaro and his wife Angela Trussoni who were, with their son Giuseppe, the perfectionists of a steam-powered discontinuous distillation system unique to the time.
At the end of 2000, Mr. Giuseppe Montanaro, by then almost 80 years old, in the absence of direct heirs, decided to sell the Montanaro distillery to a group of Alba entrepreneurs. Today, thanks to the experience of its collaborators, the Montanaro distillery seeks to place itself among the top players in the distillation world, with products that meet the increasingly sophisticated needs of the market.
