Château Margaux

Chateau Margaux is one of the five Bordeaux estates ranked highest in the 1855 classification of 1er Grand Cru Classé. Only grapes from its own vineyards are used to produce the wine. A total of three varieties of Chateau Margaux wine are produced: the 'first' and 'second' reds, as well as the white Pavillon Blanc, the first and one of the best white wines ever made. Chateau Margaux wines boast impressive development potential, up to 100 years! Many vintages are ready to be in the glass even at a relatively young age. Their creations were admired by Thomas Jefferson, a great connoisseur of French wines, and in 1776 the '1771 vintage was included in the catalogue of Christie's auction house for the first time.
The estate, on whose territory Chateau Margaux wine is produced today, was built in the 12th century and was originally called La Mothe de Margaux. Wine production began later, in the 16th century, when the estate was taken over by the Lestognac family.
