Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, driven by a desire to produce a great Italian red wine. Passionate about wine, he was fascinated by the Sangiovese di Montalcino and its austere and unpredictable character. At the time, the denomination Brunello di Montalcino had about 30 producers. During a visit to the area, Giovanni Neri purchased Podere Casanova, a property of about 200 hectares east of Montalcino, realising its great potential due to its altitude and the quality of its soils. Thus, in May 1971, Casanova di Neri was founded, with the aim of enhancing the area through new Sangiovese vines and the production of quality Brunello.
