Benromach Distillery

The Benromach distillery was built in 1898 in Forres, near Elgin. It is a family-run distillery, one of the smallest in operation. In 1993 the distillery was bought by the Urquhart family, eager to revive the lost style of Speyside by using malted barley to give just a whisper of peat smoke. This process dates back more than a century, when all the malts on Speyside were topped up with bits of peat when the supply of coal ran out, giving the whiskies a distinct character. When the distillery was reopened by Prince Charles in 1998, it marked the rediscovery of a lost style of Speyside single malt. A subtly smoky character that adds depth, enhancing the complexity and flavour profile of our core range of whiskies. In order to offer drinkers unique flavour variations, the whiskies presented in the Contrasts range are limited editions, released as single batches or single casks, born from our natural instinct to experiment. Each release showcases the result of a new process, a new type of barley or a new cask, offering whisky enthusiasts something new to explore.
