The story of the Caprai family began in 1971, when Arnaldo Caprai, already an Umbrian entrepreneur in the textile sector who was awarded the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro for Merit in Agriculture in 2002, bought forty-two hectares in Montefalco, four of which were already planted with vines on the Tenuta Val Di Maggio estate, to realise his dream of running a wine farm. Determined to exploit the enormous potential of the native Sagrantino vine, he gradually annexed the best adjacent land to the estate. In 1986, the arrival of his son Marco Caprai to run the estate marked a turning point in the territory's winemaking history.
Marco's vision led him to initiate collaborations with industry professionals and research institutes in both the agronomic and oenological fields.
Thanks to the fruits of this research activity, in the early 1990s the company's Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG '25 Anni' won over critics all over the world, turning the spotlight on a hitherto little-known Italian wine-growing area.
Since then, Arnaldo Caprai, with its unique wines of elegance, longevity and refinement, has been synonymous with Italian excellence.
Today, they manage 160 hectares of vineyards located in all four cardinal points of the Montefalco DOCG area where, in addition to cultivating the native Umbrian vines Sagrantino and Grechetto, with the same passion, competence and vision, they grow other varieties including typical and international ones, such as Sangiovese, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, for the production of quality wines.
