Cantina Tramin, the home of Gewürztraminer, was founded in 1898 from a small project with just a few families initiated by Christian Schrott, the parish priest of Tramin and Member of the Austrian Parliament, to guarantee subsistence and a future for mountain winegrowers. Thanks to the strength of this union, Cantina Tramin has over time become one of the most successful cooperatives in the region and a recognised example worldwide. Today we are 160 families working a total of around 260 hectares with the pride of those who know that each bottle contains a compendium of our philosophy of life and work: rigour, dedication, trust and creativity. In 1971, Cantina Tramin merged with the historic Cantina Sociale di Egna, founded in 1893. A union that brings together in a single cooperative the heritage of traditions and vineyards, including the prestigious land in Mazzon and Glen dedicated to Pinot Noir. With the arrival at the winery of our oenologist Willi Stürz, in the 1990s the turnaround towards quality was consolidated and the "Selezione" wines project was launched, which today includes Nussbaumer, Terminum, Unterebner, Stoan, Freisinger, Maglen, Urban and Loam: the highest expression of our oenological savoir-faire and the result of a selection of our most prized vineyards. From now on, all production will be oriented towards excellence. In 2010, the renovation of our headquarters was completed, a project by architect Werner Tscholl, a sculptural structure that became an icon and symbol of Tramin. In 2018 Cantina Tramin launches Epokale, a wine that takes the limits of Gewürztraminer beyond the imaginable. Our audacity is rewarded by Wine Advocate, which for the first time awards an Italian white wine the 100/100 Parker points. The latest addition to the Tramin winery is Troy, an elegant high-alpine Chardonnay, with which we add a unique alpine interpretation to this variety that is acclaimed throughout the world.

Description

The Pinot Noir grapes used for Marjun are grown in limestone-clay soils in a hilly area at 350 to 650 metres above sea level. It takes its name from a calcareous debris strip above the vineyards (in the ancient Indo-European pre-Latin language 'marra' means 'debris'. It is a fruity and juicy wine with clear notes of spices.

Organoleptic characteristics:

Colour: ruby red with garnet hues. On the nose: hints of wild berries, plum and cherry are enhanced by spicy hints. On the palate: a pleasant freshness immediately leads one back to the altitude at which the vineyards that give rise to this elegant Pinot Noir are located, whose tannins, supported by a lively acidity, are suave and seductive. The finish is fruity and juicy with clear notes of spices.
