The Benromach distillery was built in 1898 in Forres, near Elgin. It is a family-run distillery, one of the smallest in operation. In 1993 the distillery was bought by the Urquhart family, eager to revive the lost style of Speyside by using malted barley to give just a whisper of peat smoke. This process dates back more than a century, when all the malts on Speyside were topped up with bits of peat when the supply of coal ran out, giving the whiskies a distinct character. When the distillery was reopened by Prince Charles in 1998, it marked the rediscovery of a lost style of Speyside single malt. A subtly smoky character adds depth, enhancing the complexity and flavour profile of our core range of whiskies. In order to offer drinkers unique flavour variations, the whiskies presented in the Contrasts range are limited editions, released as single batches or single casks, born from our natural instinct to experiment. Each release showcases the result of a new process, a new type of barley or a new cask, offering whisky enthusiasts something new to explore.
Description
Ben romach 10 is one of the most award-winning whiskies from the distillery known and proud to have revived the lost Speyside style of malting their barley with a puff of peat smoke. Ground in the four roller 'Boby' mill, the barley gives these whiskies their distinctive character: robust and delicious. For final maturation, the whisky is transferred to oak casks that have previously contained oloroso sherry
Organoleptic characteristics:
Golden amabra colour. The aromas are scents of green apples, pear, together with notes of dark honey, soft vanilla and delicate smokiness. The palate offers soft flavours of malty cereals and dried fruits, dark chocolate, cinnamon that combine with warm toffee and a hint of cherry

Vinification
Crystal-clear water from deep, pure springs. Barley ground in the four-roller 'Boby' mill. Manual mashing ensures a natural extraction of sugars from the ground barley to create the malt and grain aromas . Double distillation through two bespoke copper stills creates a medium-bodied spirit suitable for a variable maturation period.
