Founded in 1864 by oenologist Eloy Lecanda y Chaves with experience in Bordeaux, who planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec in addition to Tempranillo. Vega Sicilia is among the oldest wineries in Spain and, without doubt, one of the best in the world. The name Vega Sicilia has ancient origins: Vega is believed to derive from the term used to define the vegetation that grows along the banks of the Duero river, while Sicilia refers to Santa Cecilia, to whom several villages in the Castilla y León region are dedicated. Since 1982 it has been run by the Álvarez family, who modernised the winery and continued the quest for quality.

Description

Valbuena 5° is an important Spanish wine produced in the area of the upper Duero valley (Castilla y León) by the famous Vega-Sicilia winery. Valbuena is the purest expression of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with the addition of Merlot. It is a great red wine that shows us the splendour of each vintage, based on the wisdom of the past and the richness of the present. It has a powerful style, but maintains a certain delicacy and balance, combining depth and complexity.

Organoleptic characteristics:

It has an intense ruby red colour. The nose opens with aromas of berries, ripe fruit, basil and spices. In the mouth it is velvety, complex, harmonious, elegant. It has a very long finish.

Storage time:

20 years

Vinification

Fermentation at controlled temperature using indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in stainless steel. After fermentation, it is aged for five years between wood and bottle.
